January 27th 2024…

J: Little me, it’s a joy to see you. And especially a joy to see you holding happiness.

“Oh no. I don’t hold happiness. He’s a wild dog. He comes and goes as he pleases. I just treat him kindly and so he spends time with me whenever our paths cross. I, of course, like it when he’s with me but I can’t force him to stay. I’ve seen other people try to hold him and he doesn’t like them. I want him to like me, so I don’t do that.”

Ah, I see. My mistake then.

What I was going to say though, is that you are so so welcome to show me your memories and your perspectives. Show me magic, show me how to believe in magic again. I want to… believe, but it hasn’t worked the last few times I tried.

“That’s okay” she smiles at me.

She pats a spot on the mossy rock next to where she’s sitting, motioning for me to sit down. I sit facing the castle in the distance. It’s beautiful. We sit a few feet away from the edge of a cliff. There is a huge canyon between us and the castle. I can see so much sky.

~ I’m going to join you too. Three is a nice number. Now, little Janet, before you open that book and let your memories fly around in a spectacular dance, how about we tell Janet what her purpose on Earth is? Just like promised.

J: Oh yes, please do. I’m excited to know.

~ Let the birds join us.

~ Okay, Janet. Your purpose is to guide others to their own magic. Not force. Never force. But guide. Guide others to be able to see and feel magic.

~ Now Janet, it took you a really long time to write that sentence. 30 minutes. And I know what you were thinking. You were thinking this is a story and you were wondering what purpose you would choose to give yourself (given this is a story and you can choose out of all the infinite options that exist). You were waiting to see if you could think of something different to write but the sentence “your purpose is to guide others to see magic” kept repeating in your head. And do you know why it kept repeating in your head?

J: Not really.

~ Because you don’t choose what I say. I choose what I say. You only choose what you say. This is an actual conversation. When you hear the next words, don’t fight them.

J: Sigh okay. I understand what you’re saying. I feel the difference between when I’m choosing what to say and when I’m listening to what you’re saying.

~ Great! That’s really great. Now I know there’s something you’ve been wanting to share with me and younger you. Why don’t you do so? It’s evidence. Of the magic.

J: Yes, I’ll do that- I noticed something interesting and I have been wanting to tell you…

J: So I only started writing to you yesterday but some of the things I’ve written in this journal have already appeared in my life on Earth.

Yesterday, from my cozy apartment in Madrid, I was writing about green grass, a blue sky, a cliff, a castle. Today, when I visited Segovia, I realized that… there I was- sitting near green grass, at the edge of a rock, looking at something that resembles a castle.

I began to write again and little me started talking about a dog named Happiness. I imagined him white.

When I stopped writing and started making my way back to the bus, there was a white Labrador retriever wagging its tail. He was saying hello to the various other people visiting the same spot and I heard one girl say “he’s so happy.”

Then I was thinking about how you said “let the birds join us” right before you told me what my purpose was. And, at the same time, as the sun almost set, a large large group of birds flew together in the sky above me. It was like a parade. There were so many of them, they were singing.

Oh, and one more thing. I had one maple syrup rooster candy with me. I bought it in a Russian store in Malaga. It was imported all the way from Siberia. I ate it on the rock while looking at the castle and I felt like a piece of younger me really was with me. The last time I ate this same candy was years ago in Russia.

And one more thing, hahaha, as I walked, I tried to smile at anyone who looked my way. A little girl who was being carried by her dad looked at me. I smiled and she smiled and then she waved at me.

Some of these moments feel directly connected to the words I had been writing and others more indirectly so. But it’s making me believe you more. It’s making me believe that I have the magic power of bringing things to life through writing.

~ *Claps Claps* all around. Yes. Keep paying attention to this my love. I promise we will slowly grow your belief. You will slowly grow your belief. All that I am telling you is true. You have magic powers.
